walking on sunshine - 25th anniversary

When the songwriter Kimberly Rew wrote a song “Walking on Sunshine” for the band Katrina and the Waves more than a quarter of century before, who could have imagined that it would become one of the most popular songs in the world that will keep on being played over and over far into the future.

It’s a song that defines “feel-good” and has featured on the soundtrack to countless films, including Look Who's Talking, High Fidelity, American Psycho and Moon. It's been shimmied to on US show Dancing With The Stars, auditioned with on America's Got Talent and most recently sung on the global phenomenon that is US series Glee, as well as being covered by major artists such as Dolly Parton.

For the 25th anniversary of the release of the worldwide smash- hit a new African-flavoured version of the ‘drive time’ radio favourite has been recorded by the ever-inspiring Soweto Gospel Choir aided by some of the original band mates. Not surprisingly the BBC is set to feature it in its 2010 FIFA World Cup coverage – perfect for that back-of-the-net, dodging team-mates, ridiculous dance celebratory vibe!

dino merlin song big hit in turkey

One of the most famous Turkish pop singers Mustafa Sandal, also known as Musti, has achieved tremendous success in Turkey's with the adaptation of a hit song “Da Sutis” originally composed by IDM’s Dino Merlin.

After marrying a famous Serbian singer of Bosnian origin, Emina Jahovic, Musti became interested in Dino's work as Dino and Emina had collaborated on her last album for which they recorded a duet hit song "Honey." Musti was so enthralled by Dino's song "Da Sutis” at first hearing that he decided without any hesitation to adapt the song to Turkish and to include it in his new album.

It is also important to note that in Turkey the adaptation of foreign hits from neighboring countries is considered as an expression great respect for the original author and performer of the song so that this cover has propelled Dino to the very top of the Turkish pop scene.

Musti emerged on the Turkish music scene in the early nineties and has released 10 albums to date with total sales of 13 million copies.
